On Wednesday, October 28, co-chairs of the Congressional Unexploded Ordnance (UXO)/Demining Caucus, Representatives Jackie Speier and Bill Johnson hosted “Weapons Security in Latin America: Addressing the Root Causes of Migration.”
This caucus briefing addressed the State Department’s weapons security programs in Latin America and included an update on efforts to secure weapons and ammunition stockpiles in places like the Northern Triangle, Ecuador, Peru, and elsewhere.
U.S. Conventional Weapons Destruction (CWD) programs support both humanitarian demining and weapons security programs - ensuring that weapons and IED precursor materials don't fall into the wrong hands.
