From June 5-9, 2023, HALO representatives Kristen Stevens, Head of Congressional Affairs and Strategic Engagement, and Amasia Zargarian, Head of Government Affairs, participated in the United Nation’s Open Ended Working Group on Conventional Ammunition’s fourth session at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This working group set out to facilitate discussion on and establish a global framework for ammunition management.
Keeping light weapons and ammunition secure is vitally important for global safety and security, as the improper management of such items can lead to weapons falling into the hands of dangerous extremist groups – fueling violence.
HALO currently conducts weapons and ammunition management in 14 countries, partnering with local police and militaries to keep government weapons stockpiles safe and secure. Beyond managing ammunition, this work protects civilians from accidental explosions and keeps weapons out of the black-market arms trade – including away from terror groups that may otherwise threaten U.S. national security.
