HALO Ukraine was honored to host a delegation of eight U.S. Congressional staff members and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) at a minefield in Myla, Bucha district, Kyiv oblast, on October 3rd. The visit provided a firsthand look at HALO Ukraine’s demining operations in one of the areas affected by the ongoing conflict.
The delegation toured the active minefield, and took part in interactive demonstrations of the technologies and methods we use in our operations, including drones and remote-operated mechanical assets, which enhance the speed, efficiency and safety of the manual mine clearance conducted by HALO deminers. A key focus of the visit was discussing the expectations and challenges in mine action in Ukraine and underscoring the importance of ongoing support from both the U.S. Government and the private sector. The delegation also met with a local official to bear witness to community members’ experiences and hear how HALO’s mine clearance work has facilitated early recovery.
This visit reinforced the crucial role of the United States in ensuring the recovery of Ukraine’s liberated territories through a robust mine action response. We are grateful to CSIS for facilitating this visit and for the United States’ continued commitment to our mission of restoring community safety and livelihoods in Ukraine.
