On July 20th, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved $264.103 million for State Department Conventional Weapons Destruction programs in the FY24 budget. This matches last year’s allocation.
The committee also recommended continued funding for Afghanistan, Angola, Cambodia, Iraq, Jordan, Pacific Island countries, Laos, Libya, Sri Lanka, Syria, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe, as well as funding for humanitarian demining of the Okavango Delta region of Africa under the DELTA Act. The bill additionally includes $2 million for demining in Nagorno Karabakh and requests a report on improved coordination between the State Department and USAID regarding humanitarian demining and development efforts in Ukraine.
