HALO is thrilled to see the recent budget report from Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operation, and Related Programs (SFOPS) include $272 million for conventional weapons destruction plans. This includes support for Department of State humanitarian demining and security management programs.
The report included $45 million in support for demining activities in Laos, $19 million for Vietnam, and $2 million for Nagorno Karabakh. It also allotted funding for operations Afghanistan, Angola, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Zimbabwe.
This amount is above the both the House fiscal year 2022 budget appropriation as well as the Administration’s proposed allocation. We are excited to use this funding as an opportunity to support safety and security worldwide.
This increase is in large part thanks to the support of advocates who let their Members of Congress know how much they care about creating a mine-free world.
