Support for Research and Development for Mine Clearance

United States: All-time high total of 51 Representatives support bipartisan Panetta-Crawford letter to fund R&D for demining.

On April 28th, Representatives Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20) and Rick Crawford (R-AR-1) led a bipartisan letter to the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Defense, calling for increased funding for research and development of demining technology.

The letter was signed by 51 Representatives and calls for a total of $19,000,000 in funding for the U.S. Army’s Humanitarian Demining Research and Development program, which specializes in developing and testing innovative technologies to detect and clear landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This represents a $2,000,000 increase from last year.
