The HALO Trust is excited to announce the continuation and expansion of our engagement with the Trimble Foundation and the Trimble Technology teams and committees. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our journey toward enhancing global Information Management (IM) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) capabilities. Over the last six years, Trimble's Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology for surveying and mapping has played a significant role in the success of our operations in Ukraine and around the world.
GIS technology, particularly Trimble's GNSS, has revolutionized the way we locate and clear landmines and unexploded ordnance. This technology allows for precise surveying and mapping, transforming our operations and enhancing safety and efficiency. Trimble’s contributions, of 255 high-precision Trimble DA2 GNSS receivers and the Trimble Catalyst™ corrections service, along with the detailed training and mentorship of national staff, underscore the significant advancement in our operational capabilities.
Building on this success, we are proud to launch the "Women in GIS for Demining" initiative. The ambitious initiative is designed to hire, train, and mentor several women as GIS specialists in seven country programs over three years — including Ukraine, Angola, the Solomon Islands, and more. This initiative not only aims to address the gender gap in the technology and demining sectors but also to leverage geospatial technologies for safer and more efficient clearance operations. Ultimately, returning safe land to communities and contributing to recovery and stabilization efforts.
The "Women in GIS for Demining" initiative underscores a strong commitment to creating opportunities for employment of women in the GIS sector, reflecting our belief in the transformative power of geospatial technology for humanitarian purposes. We are deeply grateful to the Trimble Foundation and the Trimble Technology teams for their continued support, which makes a lasting impact on communities recovering from conflict and paves the way for a future where women play a critical role in using GIS for social good.
