On Thursday, February 27th, the bipartisan Congressional UXO/Demining Caucus held a panel discussion on State Department Conventional Weapons Destruction programs and their role in strengthening American security and global leadership.
The panel explored how U.S. State and Defense Department programs that remove landmines, clear unexploded ordnance, and secure weapons contribute to a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America. Panelists highlighted the real-world impact of these efforts and how continued investment in CWD programs advances U.S. foreign policy and national security interests.
Attendees heard from experts from leading humanitarian demining and weapons security organizations including The HALO Trust, Mines Advisory Group, and PeaceTrees Vietnam. These State Department implementing partners shared how demining and weapons security programs advance U.S. security goals, counter trafficking and terrorism, and build diplomatic partnerships abroad – all while saving civilian lives. The event also featured video remarks from UXO/Demining Caucus members Representatives Young Kim and Steve Lynch on the importance of demining to U.S. security and global stability.
