On March 20th, 2026, Representative Rick Crawford (R-AR-1) and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19), along with 84 of their colleagues, submitted a bipartisan letter to the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee encouraging support for humanitarian demining research and development.
The letter calls for $36.349 million for the Army’s Strategic and Low Intensity Conflict Demining (SLIC-Demining) Program, formerly known as the Humanitarian Demining Research and Development (HD R&D) Program. The SLIC-Demining program develops new landmine clearing technology to make demining safer and more efficient for U.S. forces, humanitarian demining organizations, and DoW-supported, host nation-conducted demining operations. SLIC-Demining technology supports the military by improving demining equipment and enabling the military to address emerging threats, saving civilian and military lives abroad, reducing costs for the State Department by increasing efficiency of humanitarian demining programs, and helping humanitarian demining organizations work in evolving and challenging environments.
